Kimi has looked pretty handy all weekend at the wheel of his E20, with setup tweaks helping the Finn push even harder to reach the ultimate pace. Qualifying this afternoon may not have been perfect, but the Iceman certainly ain’t done yet…

Kimi, P5 on the grid for tomorrow’s race; are you satisfied with that?

Not a bad qualifying performance for sure but we probably expected a bit more. The car has been good all weekend but I made a small mistake on my best lap in the last part of qualifying. It’s a bit disappointing I couldn’t get the crucial lap together at the right time, but it is what it is

Overtaking has proven to be quite tricky here in the past; does being on the third row put you at more of a disadvantage in that respect?

We’d rather be a bit higher up of course but we’re in a much better position than we have been many times this year and we’ve still managed to get good results, so it’s not a bad place to start. The layout of the track makes life a little bit more difficult but it doesn’t mean we can’t be competitive.

You’ve looked competitive all weekend; what are your thoughts looking ahead to the race tomorrow?

We don’t know what the others have been doing in practice, but our car looks pretty good on higher fuel loads and that’s a good sign. I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be right up there. We’re starting on the clean side of the track too; this year it doesn’t look like it’ll make such a big difference as it has done in the past but it always gives you a small advantage. If we can get a good start we definitely have a chance to get a strong result.

Por vitória, chefe da Lotus enaltece trabalho ao lado dos pilotos

Quarta colocada no Mundial de Construtores deste ano, a Lotus ainda está em fase de evolução. Em entrevista divulgada pelo site 'Autosport' nesta terça-feira, o chefe da equipe sediada em Enstone, Eric Boullier, afirmou que os funcionários do time estão trabalhando em conjunto com os pilotos Kimi Raikkonen e Romain Grosjean para promover melhorias no carro da Lotus.

'Em alguns aspectos, somos uma equipe nova. Este é um novo estilo de Enstone, trabalhando lado a lado aos dois pilotos', disse. 'Nosso pacote completo, incluindo o carro e os pilotos, está se unido', completou o dirigente francês.

Com seis pódios nas dez corridas realizadas neste ano, sendo quatro de Raikkonen e dois de Grosjean, a Lotus espera somar ainda mais pontos na segunda metade da temporada. Com 159 pontos, a escuderia francesa deve brigar por posições melhores nas próximas etapas, segundo Boullier.

'Não vejo nenhuma razão para, na segunda metade do campeonato, não marcarmos mais pontos do que fizemos no primeiro semestre. Isso é como deve ser', afirmou o chefe da Lotus, que mostrou confiança ao analisar as chances de sua equipe conquistar uma vitória. 'Se fizermos tudo certo na fase de qualificação e ficarmos entre os cinco primeiros, sabemos que temos ritmo para vencer. Este é o objetivo agora', encerrou.

Kimi, 4º no Mundial, já tem na mira o GP da Hungria

Kimi Räikkönen, pode-se dizer, após dez corridas disputadas no Mundial 2012 de F1, conseguiu um retorno expressivo à categoria – onde foi campeão em 2007. O finlandês, da equipe Lotus/Renault, estava fora do monopostos desde a temporada de 2009 e, nesse período, dedicou-se às competições do WRC (Campeonato Mundial de Rali).

No domingo passado, no GP da Alemanha, Kimi conquistou mais um pódio no campeonato (beneficiado pelo punição pós-corrida de Sebastian Vettel). Räikkönen acumula 98 pontos e ocupa a quarta colocação geral na tabela de classificação.

O piloto da Lotus já tem em sua alça de mira a próxima etapa do ano: o GP da Hungria, neste domingo (29 de julho). “Este é um dos circuitos onde as ultrapassagens são muito complicadas”, diz Kimi sobre Hungaroring.

“Obviamente, precisamos estar nas primeiras filas no treino de classificação e, se possível ainda, evitar o lado sujo do grid”, seguiu.

“Não estamos nos classificando bem. Mas mostramos um desempenho bom nas provas, sobretudo com o clima mais quente, quando podemos trabalhar com diferentes estratégias”, disse.

“Não será o fim do mundo se não conseguirmos uma boa performance no treino de classificação. Mas, isso não tornará as coisas mais fáceis”, encerrou Räikkönen.

A difficult qualifying session for Lotus F1 Team, with mixed conditions and a greasy track surface resulting in a wild ride for Kimi and Romain; the latter dropping out of qualifying at the second hurdle for the first time this season.

Summary:

Dark clouds loomed large over the Hockenheim circuit as the first part of qualifying kicked off. Both E20s went straight out on white marked medium compound Pirelli tyres, keen to get early laps in before the arrival of rain which seemed inevitable later in the session.
Romain had a nervy few moments midway through running; taking a significant amount of kerb around the circuit and demonstrating fantastic skill to hold a major slide out of the first turn. Kimi meanwhile put the pit crew through their paces with a practice stop before emerging on the same rubber.
With just over five minutes remaining, both drivers joined the action once more; remaining on the medium tyres to take a final swing at the sharp end of the grid. Kimi rocketed to the top of the times with his first lap; beating a number of drivers using the soft compound in the process. Despite struggling by his usual standards, Romain put together a solid stint to bring himself up the order and joining his team-mate in the next phase.

Qualifying 2 – Key Moments:

• 0mins: Rain; all cars out to get a time on intermediates before standing water emerged
• 7mins: Kimi P8, Romain P15 at the halfway stage; rain intensifying
• 11mins: The Finn starts his final run, closely followed by the Frenchman; both on full wets

Summary:

True to form, a sprinkling of rain began to fall just before the second part of qualifying began; thunder rumbling and lightning flashing across the sky. The circuit became instantly packed as every driver aimed to put a time in on green marked intermediate tyres before standing water developed on the track; Kimi and Romain among the masses.
At the halfway stage, the Finn had sneaked into the top ten while the Frenchman sat in the drop zone as the rain began to intensify; both drivers returning to base and awaiting their next move.
With just minutes to spare, both drivers tentatively crept out onto the circuit sporting the blue marked full wet tyres. Times however were not to improve as track conditions deteriorated; Kimi sneaking through to the pole position shoot out in P10, Romain making an off track excursion and subsequently being knocked out in the second stage for the first time this season.

• 2mins: Solid first effort for the Finn as the rain eases

Summary:

With his team-mate eliminated from the final phase of qualifying, Kimi flung the sole remaining E20 out of the pits on full wet tyres as the last ten minutes of the day disappeared from the board.
A solid initial run for the Finn before returning to base for fresh rubber; one last stint in mind before the session concluded.
This final effort yielded a decent improvement for the 2007 World Champion, it was not enough to improve on his position; the E20s set to start the German Grand Prix from tenth (Kimi) and twentieth (Romain; five place penalty from his initial placing of fifteenth).

Kimi: "Nosso carro parece ser muito bom em todas as pistas"

Confiante, finlandês garante ao TotalRace que não se preocupa com o frio na Alemanha e não descarta lutar pelo título

 

De olho na primeira vitória após o retorno à F-1, Kimi Raikkonen acredita que a Lotus mostrou que vai bem em todos os tipos de situação. Perguntado pelo TotalRace sobre a dificuldade da Lotus nas temperaturas mais baixas, o finlandês disse acreditar que há vários fatores que interferem no rendimento.

“Não é exatamente uma questão de frio. Na Grã-Bretanha não estava muito quente e tivemos um bom ritmo. Acho que depende mais dos tipos de pneus que temos em cada corrida e do traçado da pista. Nosso carro parece ser muito bom em todas as pistas, então não vejo motivos para que não estejamos bem aqui. Se estiver frio, acho que iremos bem, mas é claro que o calor é uma condição mais ideal para nós.”

Quinto colocado no campeonato, Raikkonen não se coloca fora da disputa pelo bicampeonato e garante que ainda não está 100% feliz com seu desempenho após o retorno.

“Não tenho motivos para dizer que não vou tentar. Não estou aqui para ficar dando voltas. Estou aqui para tentar fazer com que tenhamos uma chance e é isso que vou fazer neste final de semana. É verdade que ainda não estamos melhores que todos os rivais e que temos algumas coisas para melhorar no carro.”

“Não estou feliz com a maneira como todos os finais de semana estão indo, mas é algo que já esperava. Não acreditava que tudo daria certo logo de cara. Nenhum das minhas corridas foi realmente perfeita, mas acho que a do Bahrein se destaca no geral.”

We are reaching the halfway point of the season this weekend in Hockenheim. It’s our tenth attempt to get a clean and productive weekend. So far something has been missing, although it has been a good first part of the season.

This team really would deserve a win or two. The car is competitive and the development work goes nicely with it.

Personally for me the Grands Prix in German soil are a little bit like a misery. Obviously, I  have had some very strong races – but not the whole way through to the checkered flag, unfortunately.
Sometimes the engine has failed, sometimes the tyre, sometimes the heavy rain has put the things upside down.

I’m not fond of remembering what has happened in the past, but mentioning the German races make me wonder, why it has always been such a tricky place to get top results in the race, too.
This is now my first visit to Germany with Lotus. Hopefully it will turn my fortunes there, too.

Now we have back-to-back races in Hockenheim and Hungary. Obviously, we push really hard to get the maximum out of our car. It’s a strong and consistent car, capable of taking us in the front row - if we get everything nicely together on Saturday.

We need a good position in the grid to make our life a little bit easier during the race compared to Valencia and Silverstone.

Going to Hockenheim is something I have missed for four years. It’s a challenging circuit, with some tricky corners and some heavy breaking. It’s going to be interesting to see, how Pirelli tyres last there. Hopefully the weather will be as summerish as possible - like it has usually been in Hockenheim.

Obviously, I never predict anything beforehand. Let’s wait and see, how the first few laps go on Friday morning. The team has been working very hard and I felt the the high spirits everybody has in the factory, so I have a good feeling, we can get the job done in Hockenheim, too.

After Germany we go to Hungary. At least there we will get a hot race. Obviously I will do my very best to achieve some nice points before starting the well deserved summer vacation to charge the batteries for the rest of the season fight.

Azarado, Kimi Raikkonen espera ter melhores marcas em terras germânicas

Não andando na pista desde 2008, o finlandês quer tirar a zica alemã e se beneficiar do calor para tentar conquistar um bom resultado 

 

O finlandês Kimi Raikkonen se disse muito azarado quando corre em pistas alemãs, mas espera que com as altas temperaturas esperadas para o fim de semana, que o rendimento de sua Lotus seja muito bom. A ultima vez que Kimi esteve em Hockenheim foi em 2008.

"Sempre gostei de correr na Alemanha, mas a sorte nunca esteve do meu lado. Sempre alguma coisa acontecia e me fazia perder a prova quando estava para vencer. Já tive quarto poles, mas seis quebras, também. Sempre gostei do dois circuitos - Hockenheim e Nürburgring -, e me mostrava fui bastante competitivo lá. Quem sabe esse ano não seja o da virada", disse o esperançoso Homem de Gelo.

O finlandês, já sabendo o caminho das pedras do circuito, indica o acerto ideal que o carro tem que ter por lá: "Você tem que ter boa tração com seu carro, se não tiver boa aderência na parte traseira, não conseguirá brigar por posições mais além."

Pilotando pela última vez no circuito há quatro anos, a dificuldade em ultrapassar sempre foi visível, mas para o piloto da Lotus, com as ajudas que o piloto possui hoje, tal ato não deve ser de grande dificuldade.

"Quando estive na pista pela última vez na pista, isso em 2008, era bem difícil de se ultrapassar. Esse ano, com KERS e com o DRS, poderá ficar bem mais fácil. E como é esperado altas temperaturas, nosso carro pode se dar bem, pois funciona melhor nessas condições", finalizou.

Vettel elege Kimi Raikkonen como melhor amigo em F-1 "política"

Apesar de o finlandês Kimi Raikkonen ter retornado à Fórmula 1 apenas no início desta temporada, ele já se tornou o melhor amigo do alemão Sebatian Vettel, campeão da categoria nas últimas duas temporadas. Segundo alemão, o jeito sincero e pouco político do campeão de 2007 da categoria o conquistou.

“Você pode gostar ou não dele, mas ele vive do seu jeito. Faz as coisas que identificou como boas para ele e não está querendo ser o queridinho de todo mundo”, disse Vettel. “Ele é honesto e fala para você se teve um dia ruim. Ponto final. Ele é real, não politico”, completou.

Vettel fez sua primeira corrida na Fórmula 1 em 2007 e desde então vem se acostumando com os lados bons e ruins da fama de ser um dos melhores pilotos do mundo, principalmente após conquistar o Mundial em 2010 e 2011. A alta carga de trabalho e o pouco tempo para família e amigos são alguns dos problemas citados pelo alemão e que geralmente passam batidos pelos fãs da categoria.

“Você está sempre viajando, tem um trabalho de 24 horas por dia e sete dias por semana, e pouco tempo para você mesmo, ainda menos para amigos e famílias. Não me entenda mal, não estou reclamando até porque amo minha vida e a escolheria de novo. Mas você tem que admitir que ela vem com uma bagagem”, disse o alemão.
